The Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) is a regional trade association for roofing contractors and related companies in the western United States. It was formed in 1974, a year after western contractors met during a national convention in 1973 to discuss creating a group focused on the West.

The association serves contractors, manufacturers, distributors and consultants. Its members work across a region with very different roofing conditions: coastal rain in the Pacific Northwest, intense sun and heat in the desert Southwest, wildfire exposure in many areas, and snow loads in the mountains.

Activities

  • Conventions and trade show. WSRCA holds an annual convention with an exhibit hall for suppliers. An early milestone was its tenth-anniversary convention in San Diego, California, in 1984.
  • Education and safety. The association offers safety resources, training and technical education for members.
  • Industry media. WSRCA's activities and history are regularly covered by Western Roofing magazine, a trade publication focused on the western states.

History

WSRCA marked its 50th anniversary in 2024. Over that time it has worked alongside national bodies such as the National Roofing Contractors Association and state-level groups.

Regional context

Western states differ in how they regulate roofers. California, for example, licenses roofing contractors through its state contractors board, while other states rely more on local registration. WSRCA membership is voluntary and does not replace a state or local licence. Homeowners should check licensing with their state authority.

Typical roof types in the region

Roofing in the West covers a wide mix of systems. Concrete and clay tile are common on homes in California, Arizona and Nevada; asphalt shingles and metal dominate in the Pacific Northwest and mountain states; and single-ply membranes, spray polyurethane foam and coatings are widely used on low-slope commercial roofs in hot, dry areas. Fire-rated roof coverings matter in wildfire-prone zones.
