Tata Steel Colors Private Limited, formerly Tata BlueScope Steel, is an Indian producer of metallic-coated and colour-coated steel and of roof and wall cladding, headquartered in Pune. It was established in 2005 as a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Steel and Australia's BlueScope Steel. Tata Steel signed an agreement on 12 November 2025 to buy BlueScope's 50 percent stake for about INR 1,100 crore and completed the purchase on 31 December 2025, making the company a wholly owned Tata Steel subsidiary.

Operations

The company's plants are at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu), Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) and Pune (Maharashtra). The Jamshedpur coated steel plant was inaugurated in March 2012. Annual capacity is about 250,000 tonnes of metallic coating and 150,000 tonnes of colour coating.

Businesses

Under the joint venture the company operated three lines of business:

  • Coated steel: aluminium-zinc coated and pre-painted steel coil for roofing and cladding manufacturers.
  • Roof and wall cladding products: roll-formed profiled sheets and accessories for industrial, commercial and residential buildings.
  • Pre-engineered building solutions: steel-framed buildings supplied with their roof and wall cladding.

Context

In India, coated steel roofing sheets are used on factories, warehouses and other buildings, alongside fibre-cement corrugated sheets and reinforced concrete slabs. The joint venture combined BlueScope's metallic coating and painting technology with Tata Steel's steelmaking base.

Coated steel

Metallic coatings such as aluminium-zinc protect the steel base from corrosion, while a paint system on top adds colour and further protection. The combination is the standard material for roll-formed roofing and wall sheets.
