Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) is a Kenyan manufacturer of coated steel and steel roofing products and a member of Safal Group. The word mabati is Swahili for metal roofing sheets. MRM cites more than 60 years of experience.
Safal Group
Safal Group, MRM's parent, dates its history to 1962 and describes more than 60 years in steel building products. It operates in nine countries in eastern and southern Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa. Its activities include metallic-coated steel made with its Zincal technology, roofing systems, engineered trusses, ventilation products, hollow sections, pipes and beams.
Products
MRM's range covers:
- Residential roofing: steel roofing sheets and tiles sold under names such as Versatile, Orientile, Elegantile and Minicorr.
- Industrial and commercial roofing: profiles including IT-5 Tekdek, Saflok 700, Newlok 410 and Safdeck.
- Coated steel: metallic-coated and pre-painted coil and sheet under the Zincal, Optima, Optima Plus and Colorplus names.
- Structures: Ultra Span light steel trusses and Safbuild pre-engineered buildings.
- Accessories: flashings, ventilators and louvres, pipes and tubes, and cold rooms (SAFCOOL).
Context
In East Africa, steel roofing sheets are used on buildings ranging from rural homes to factories. Steel thickness and the type and mass of the metallic coating are the main factors buyers compare, because they govern resistance to corrosion, particularly in coastal and humid climates. The company also supplies flashings and ridges to complete roofs. Products are designed for residential, industrial and commercial buildings. Coated coil is also sold to other fabricators.
