Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA)

The Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) is a statewide trade association for roofing, sheet metal and air-conditioning contractors in Florida, United States. It was founded in 1922 and marked its centennial in 2022. Its headquarters is in Orlando, and its website is floridaroof.com.

FRSA represents more than 1,000 member companies, including contractors as well as manufacturers, distributors and other businesses connected to roofing. It works through statewide affiliate councils that cover different parts of Florida.

Activities

• Education. The FRSA Educational and Research Foundation, founded in 1982, is a non-profit that trains workers, managers and owners in the construction trades. The association runs a training centre for courses and exam preparation.
• Technical manuals. FRSA has worked with the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance on the Florida High Wind Concrete and Clay Tile Installation Manual, which sets out tile installation methods for Florida's wind conditions.
• Convention and expo. The association holds an annual convention and trade show.
• Publications. It publishes Florida Roofing magazine.
• Insurance. A self-insurers fund for workers' compensation was started in 1955; it now operates as BrightFund.

Florida context

Florida has some of the most demanding roofing requirements in North America because of hurricanes. The Florida Building Code includes strict wind-resistance and product-approval rules, with even stricter provisions in Miami-Dade and Broward counties (the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone). Roofing contractors in Florida must be licensed by the state through the Construction Industry Licensing Board. FRSA membership is voluntary and separate from licensing, but the association offers a member search to help consumers find licensed contractors.
